Book a Pet Photographer: The Top 5 Reasons You Should

You’re getting married, you’re having a baby–you need a photographer. There are photographers for everything; but then, there are photographers that offer something else, something you didn’t realize you needed, and that’s the pet photographer. Here are out top 5 reasons to book a pet photographer.

Making the choice to book a photographer is easy when you have a special event or “big moment” coming up that you’ll need to document, both for you and for your guests, and when it’s something everyone books a photographer for.

But, booking a pet photographer isn’t something that everyone–or even most people–think of doing. That’s because a pet-centered family or couple has a different mindset than the average, non pet-owner. Pet ownership is growing, though, and rapidly! More and more people are accepting and treating their pets like a special part of their family.

So, if this sounds like you, then HERE are my Top 5 reasons you should book a pet photographer

1. Pets are a part of the family; they should be treated that way.

You love your family, of course. But everyone’s busy with work and school, or life. So, you hire a family portrait photographer to get everyone in one spot for a special day to remember, to have tangible photographs to look back and laugh about together–GREAT.

Well, it’s no different with the pets in our lives. In fact, they’re the ones who are always home to greet us at the end of each day, wagging their tails or hopping up and down. Why wouldn’t you want to include your most loyal, furry member in the family portrait? The pet photographer is a special type of person who understands this, too, I promise. We LOVE when we get to photograph pets with their families. It makes everyone happy, and included.

2. They are not here forever; but you’ll want to remember them forever. Book a pet photographer to help.

It’s a sad reality as a pet owner, that they’re only with us for a short period of time, and that that time will most likely fly by. As I’ve said in previous posts, every time we do events, I get at least one person come up to our booth and say, “Wow, I wish I knew that there were people like you (pet photographers) when I had my girl. She recently passed.” It’s so upsetting to hear, but it also makes me even more proud of what we do and sure that there is a need for the pet photographer.

You want that professional photo of your beloved fur-baby to frame, or to hang on your wall, forever–not for it to make you sad every time you look at it, but so you can look back and relive the fun, unique spirit of your best friend you got the once in a lifetime opportunity to experience life with.

3. It’s a special opportunity to bond with your pet.

One of the services I offer is an “Adventure with Us” shoot, where I come along on a fun activity or trip that’s familiar to both you and your pet–maybe it’s a hiking trail you both love, or a special spot where you both shared a memory–and I catch all of the genuine, candid moments as if it were any other day (only, with a “pup”-arazzi).

A pet photographer is a specific type of photographer that is perfect for taking on this type of session, and it’s important because you get to share a new experience with your pet that you both can enjoy because it’s in a spot that you both already know and love.

The pictures that come out of these adventures are so special because they’re real and raw with emotion.

When you book a pet photographer, you know your pet is going to be just as important in the photos as you are (even though you may be more willing to share the spotlight than they are!).

4. A pet photographer will get the shots you would’ve never been able to get.

Some of the best feedback I’ve ever gotten was that I’ve been able to capture photos that my furry subject’s parent simply couldn’t.

Sometimes, you want the shot of your pet with her favorite toy, or in her favorite spot on the couch–just absolutely in her element. But it’s difficult because your pet gets too excited when she sees you, or when you get near her, or when you take your phone or camera out to try to catch that moment. Our pets recognize us and have their own “little” dramatic reactions when we walk into a room.

A pet photographer is someone who has a natural way with animals, a way that makes them feel comfortable; it’s someone who has the patience to work with the pet in order to get the shot.

As a pet parent, you’re very used to and in tune with your pet’s daily quirks and behaviors. Sometimes it takes an outsider with an eye for stunning photography to put themselves in the right place at the right time.

5. If you’re a pet-centered family, you can’t just trust any photographer to capture your unique and specific family pictures.

There are many different photographers out there, with all different specialties: family photographers, wedding and engagement photographers, studio and portrait photographers.

But when you are a pet-centered family, you want someone who understands how important it is to you to have your photographs reflect that.

It truly does take a specific type of person to be a pet photographer. It’s someone who loves animals, but who also naturally connects with them, knows how to handle them and is totally and completely comfortable around them.

I’m a huge fan of taking engagement photos. And since I’m a “pet photographer,” the amount of couples with pets who reach out to me and who want their pets to be a part of their engagement and special day, is significant.

When you book a pet photographer for any kind of special event, it allows you the opportunity to take your pet along with you, which can even make the whole session easier and more exciting and comfortable for you. It’s like, “Hey, a day for all of the attention to be on me? Perfect! Can I bring my best friend, too? She loves attention, too!”

Hiring a pet photographer isn’t something everyone considers. But if you own a pet, if your pet is your baby, your best friend, one of your favorite family members of all time, then the time is NOW to capture those special memories, before it’s too late.

Bring them to your family photos, bring them to your engagement photos, your wedding, your special events, like proposals, senior photos, sexy boudoir sessions–make them a staple in everything you capture to hold onto forever.

This is what I love. And I cannot say enough about how important it is to hire the pet photographer, for all of these 5 reasons above, and more.
